Markha Valley is famous among trekkers and adventurers for its abundant natural treasure. It hosts a number of wonderful and beautiful mountains and peaks to climb. DzoJongo peak is a hidden peak in this valley nestling right near the famous Kang Yatse I, II. This wonderful summit stands 6240m tall, which is a bit higher than the Stok Kangri peak. It is a superb peak above 6000m that can be ascended easily with the right equipment, physical fitness, and a passion for the outdoors. Dzo jongo Ri is a climbing mountain with little technical requirements but strong inclines on slick snow and ice slopes. These difficult ascents will be tackled with crampons or by securing ropes, making the climb safer. The climbing path takes you through some of Ladakh’s most beautiful landscapes,
including the huge Nyimaling Plains, many Stupas, old Monasteries, amazing village settlements, and  a group of kind locals who work hard in these desolate areas.
The DzoJongo has two peaks, with the real summit being steep and difficult to reach. The most common route to this mountain is via the Markha Valley, which can be reached from Skui. This is the same route as the expedition of Kang Yatse. However, we chose the route from the Lato side, a well
known settlement on the Manali-Leh highway. The summit of the hill provides spectacular views of the StokKangri, Kang Yatse, Changthang valley mountains, and the distant Karakoram range. The journey actually brings you to three high passes (5100+ metres): Shiul, Chak, and Kongmaru La, which are rarely seen on most treks. The greener side of Markha Valley may be seen from Kongmaru La pass.

Day 2

Acclimatization Day

It is recommended and necessary for all visitors to fully acclimate to the weather of Ladakh in order to avoid AMS (acute mountain sickness/high altitude sickness). The most frequent and mildest form of high-altitude illness is AMS. If you get HAPE (High-Altitude Pulmonary Edema) or HACE (High-Altitude Chest Edema), it can be fatal (High-Altitude Cerebral Edema). Dizziness, fatigue, headache, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, rapid heart rate, and shortness of breath are some of the symptoms of AMS in Ladakh, which are caused by low oxygen levels and air pressure at the same time. Shortness of breath (even while lying down), persistent coughing, exercise intolerance, and coughing up pink, frothy spit are all symptoms of HAPE, a more severe type of altitude sickness (indication of fluid in the lungs). HACE is a more serious type of altitude sickness that involves difficulty walking, intense exhaustion, and a loss of focus. HACE and HAPE are rare diseases that can be fatal if not treated quickly. To fully acclimate, you should spend at least two days in Leh before beginning your trip, including the day you arrive and the next day. In these two days, you may go about Leh and visit all of the local tourist attractions.
